The Republican Lawyers' Association (RAV) is launching a new series of events on migration law . From June 12th to 14th, 2026, the first Lawyers' Migration Law Conference will take place in Jena. Under the title "Unbounded," legal professionals, academics, and practitioners will come together. The conference aims to demonstrate how law, society, and migration intersect and where new avenues for social action can emerge. It will focus not only on legal statutes but also on the social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of law . The event is being organized by renowned lawyers such as Berenice Böhlo, Peter Fahlbusch, and Ünal Zeran.

New part of the existing conference structure

The new Jena Migration Law Days complement an existing network of events dedicated to migration law in Germany. While they differ in their focus, methodology, and target audience, they offer all stakeholders the opportunity to exchange knowledge and gain new perspectives.

The Jena Migration Law Days thus fit into the following existing conferences on migration law:

Hohenheim Days on Migration Law

The Hohenheim Days on Migration Law are one of the most established events in Germany. Since 1985, academics, practitioners, representatives from administration and the judiciary, the media, churches, welfare organizations, and trade unions from Germany and abroad have met here. The aim of the conference is to examine migration from a humanitarian perspective and to discuss sustainable political solutions.

The Hohenheim Days are characterized by a Christian foundation that supports migration without losing sight of the common good. The event has always been supported by Caritas, Diakonie, and the DGB regional branch, and is now one of the most important conferences on immigration law in Germany.

Speyer Migration Law Days

The Speyer Migration Law Days follow a more academic approach . Scholarly presentations are complemented by practical statements, stimulating intensive discussions. The event is aimed at representatives from administration, the judiciary, the legal profession, migration counseling services, and volunteers. Under the academic direction of Professor Dr. Constanze Janda, the Speyer Days convey methodology and didactics in migration law and place particular emphasis on the connection between theory and practice. The conferences take place in the auditorium of the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer and offer a platform for in-depth analyses, new research findings, and practical solutions.

Activist-oriented meetings

Besides the large, established conferences, there are numerous smaller, regionally organized meetings with an activist focus. Examples include the Migration Law Days 2025 in North Rhine-Westphalia , smaller meetings in Bavaria or Schleswig-Holstein, and the Working Group on Migration Law in Berlin. These meetings are exclusively for lawyers.

In addition to the aforementioned conferences, there are numerous small working groups as well as a whole range of commercial meetings .

Conclusion of conferences on migration law

With the new "Unbounded" Migration Law Conference for lawyers in Jena, the RAV (German Bar Association) is creating an exciting new forum starting in 2026 that meaningfully complements the existing conference offerings (especially for lawyers ) in migration law. While established conferences such as the Hohenheim and Speyer Migration Law Conferences are primarily academic in nature, the RAV is re-establishing an activist-oriented format. The new event series thus makes not only a professional but also an important socio-political contribution.
