Digitalization of immigration authorities is progressing
The " Aufenthalts Digital " project has reached another major milestone: 300 immigration authorities in Germany are now using the digital services live. Since its launch in March 2022, more than 200,000 applications have been submitted online – currently, the number is more than 20,000 per month, and the trend is still rising. These figures illustrate the great need for efficient digital solutions in the area of migration. Especially in cities with a high influx of international skilled workers (e.g., Berlin), it is clear that digital processes can significantly simplify everyday work.
More efficiency for professionals and lawyers
For international professionals who are coming to Germany or wish to extend their stay, digital application processes offer many advantages. Long waiting times, confusing paper forms, and repeated visits to authorities are increasingly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, applications can be conveniently prepared and submitted online – often even outside of normal office hours. Lawyers who assist clients in these processes also benefit: They can review documents more quickly, better meet deadlines, and make the entire process more transparent.
Significance for employers and companies
"Aufenthalt Digital" is also a benefit for employers seeking to hire skilled workers from abroad. Digital processing saves time and resources in human resources departments and ensures more predictable processes when applying for residence permits or work permits. Especially in industries with a shortage of skilled workers, speedy processing is crucial for quickly integrating qualified employees into the company.
Outlook: Further improvements planned
The successful connection of the 300th authority demonstrates the potential of digitizing migration administration. At the same time, it's clear that development isn't yet complete. Further updates and new features for "Aufenthalt Digital" are already in the works. The goal is to make the processes even simpler, faster, and more user-friendly for applicants, lawyers, and employers. Anyone wishing to initiate a skilled worker application or extend a residence permit in the future will therefore benefit from an increasingly digitized administration .
